Violent Start to 2019 in Boston as 1 Man Fatally Shot, Woman Critically Injured in Stabbing

A 32-year-old man was fatally shot and a woman in her 20s was critically injured in a stabbing

It was a violent start to 2019 in Boston: hours after the New Year began, a man was fatally shot and a woman was critically injured in a stabbing.

Both incidents happened overnight in Dorchester as Boston celebrated First Night festivities.

Police responded to the area of 19 Johnston Road at 3:05 a.m. for a report of a man who had been shot. Authorities found the victim, identified 32-year-old Taunton resident Emmanuel Molin, shot in the chest.

Molin was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

Celeste Goncalves says the victim is a family friend who was over at her house for a New Year's Eve party when he stepped outside.

"Then he came back in my house and says he got shot," Goncalves recalled.

A few hours following the fatal shooting, around 5:05 a.m., police responded to the area of 38 Clarkson Street for a report of a woman stabbed outside of a house.

The victim, identified only as a female in her early 20s, was taken to a local hospital where she is in critical condition.

"It's scary because I am upstairs," one woman who lives near the crime scene said.

Jose Fernandez owns the rental units and says his tenants were not involved.

"I don't know them, I don't know what happened," he said.

The names of the shooting and stabbing victims are not being released at this time, and there have been no arrests.

"I don't want nothing like this happening to nobody's kids," Goncalves said.

Both the fatal shooting and stabbing are under investigation.
