Man Sought by Massachusetts State Police Apprehended

Authorities in Massachusetts have captured a suspect who bailed from a car on Route 2 near the Gardner and Westminster town lines after crashing it while being chased by police.

Massachusetts State Police air wing and K9 teams responded to the area around noon on Tuesday to help search for Brian Lafrennie, 29, who had warrants for his arrest for past offenses.

Police first responded to the Price Chopper Supermarket on Main Street in Gardner at 11:36 a.m. for reported threats involving a man and woman. When officers arrived in an attempt to speak to the man, Lafrennie, fled the scene at a high-rate of speed. He eventually crashed into a median before fleeing on foot into some woods.

After setting up a perimeter, Massachusetts State Trooper Dustin Fitch said on Twitter around 5 p.m. that Lafrennie had been taken into custody in Gardner.

"Nice work! Everyone is safe," Fitch said.

Lafrennie was charged with failure to stop for police, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, use of a motor vehicle without authority, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and marked lanes violation. He is being held without bail until his arraignment Wednesday in Gardner District Court.
