A man threatening suicide was shot by a Westbrook, Maine, police officer early Saturday morning after he confronted police.
Police say they responded around 6 a.m. to 108 Longfellow St., where they found 26-year-old Sean Grossman with a handgun.
Grossman was taken to Maine Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries after an officer shot him in the face, according to necn affiliate WCSH.
"It's certainly a stressful situation," said Westbrook Police Chief Janine Roberts. "First, is a concern for life - the safety of life, my officers and then the individuals that are involved. Then it's making sure that we're doing things the way we should be - following procedure, following law, and protecting the rights of all involved."
The state attorney general’s office is investigating the incident.
