Man Tries To Rob Elderly Woman, Stopped by Passerby

Robert Johnson of Jamaica Plain, Mass. arrested

A Massachusetts man is expected to be arraigned Tuesday after reportedly assaulting a 62-year-old woman at the MBTA's Back Bay Station on Monday night.

The victim had disembarked from a Route 39 bus when she was approached by Robert Johnson, who was seeking money. As the woman kept walking, Johnson allegedly followed her into the station, and forcefully pushed her to the ground, struck her in the torso area and attempted to take her handbag.

Someone came to her aid, and Johnson, 49, of Jamaica Plain, fled the station.

When police found Johnson, he was being restrained on a Dartmouth St. sidewalk by an unknown man.

He was placed into custody and will be arraigned for assault to rob (unarmed) and assault and battery on an elderly person.
