Man Who Led Police on Chase Ordered Held Without Bail

A Massachusetts man is facing 11 charges after leading police on a multi-town chase on the Massachusetts Turnpike and Interstate 495 on Tuesday afternoon.

Marqus Mitchell, 33, of Peabody, was ordered held without bail at his arraignment Wednesday in Worcester District Court.

Police said the chase began in Auburn around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday when Mitchell was seen acting suspiciously behind the La Quinta Inn on Southbridge Street.

Officers tried to arrest him, but said he resisted. A stun gun was used, but was unsuccessful, and police say he was able to get back into his vehicle to flee.

Authorities pursued him, and the chase ended in a crash on I-495 in Marlborough, on the Exit 24 off-ramp to Route 20, where he lost control of his vehicle at about 4:50 p.m.

As he exited his vehicle, police said Mitchell threw his gun at officers. They said he had drugs, a magazine for his gun in his car, and appeared to be under the influence of something. Police said they had to use pepper spray to subdue him and were then able to take him into custody.
