A Beverly, Massachusetts, man who used a weightlifting dumbbell during three burglaries at North Shore jewelry stores has been sentenced to up to nine years in prison.

James Jay Radler, described by police as a "one-man crime wave," was sentenced Tuesday for two break-ins at Desjardins Jewelers in Beverly and another at Long's Jewelers in Peabody, in late 2012 and early 2013.

Authorities say in all three, the 52-year-old Radler used a dumbbell from a set of weights to smash his way into the stores and to smash display cases.

The Salem News (http://bit.ly/1833OZM ) reports he was tracked by the DNA in the blood he left behind at one burglary. He also pawned stolen items using his own name.

In one burglary, he got away with $24,000 worth of jewelry.
