Man Charged With Sexually Assaulting Child in Park

A man has been charged with sexually assaulting a child in a Bennington, Vermont, park.

James Mason, 38, of Pownal, was arrested after a child told police Mason brought them to Greenberg Headwater Park around 11 p.m. on Aug. 14 and sexually assaulted them.

State police investigated the report and interviewed Mason at their barracks on Wednesday. They subsequently charged him with lewd and lascivious conduct with a child, as well as sexual assault of a child.

Mason was held without bail at Marble Valley Correctional Facility and scheduled to appear in court on Thursday afternoon. It is unclear if he has an attorney.
