Armed Robbers Still at Large After Leading Police on Chase, Abandoning BMW in Dedham

Multiple people are believed to have fled from police in a BMW after an armed robbery in Hyde Park, then abandoned the vehicle

Dedham residents were urged to stay inside Friday afternoon as police searched for armed robbery suspects who abandoned their vehicle amid a chase.

Dedham and Massachusetts State Police searched for the suspected robbers near Violet and Commonwealth avenues, where an abandoned car was found, but after about an hour, they said it appeared that the robbery suspects had left the area and people could return to normal activity.

"A suspect in an armed robbery abandoned a vehicle after a pursuit. Residents advised to stay inside until this situation is resolved," Dedham police said in an earlier tweet.

Massachusetts State Police said its officers were searching in the air and on the ground for "multiple armed robbery suspects who fled" their vehicle.

The robbery took place at 350 Cummins Highway, in Hyde Park, Boston police told NBC10 Boston, about four miles away from where officers were searching.

Boston police officers spotted a black BMW that was believed to be involved and gave chase, which state police took over, according to Boston police.

The BMW had moved to Interstate 95, Dedham police explained in a statement later, then entered Dedham on exit 16A. State troopers stopped following the vehicle as it continued on Route 109, then turned onto Pine Street.

Dedham police had moved to positions to be able to assist, according to the statement, but the BMW was subsequently found abandoned on Short Street near Violet Avenue.

Officers began searching with police dogs and the advisory went out to residents to stay inside, Dedham police said.

A retired police officer near McGolf, a driving range in the area, told a Dedham officer he saw some suspicious people in the area, police said. A check of surveillance video showed the suspected armed robbers entering another vehicle and leaving.

State police say a gun was recovered.

As the search for the armed robbers continues, police have not released a description of the three suspects. A McGolf employee says she may have seen the suspects, however. She says police are reviewing video that show the men sitting under a canopy before getting into a car.

The robbery victim did not want to go on camera Friday night.
