Man's Trial in Teen's Fatal Heroin Overdose Delayed

The trial of a Massachusetts man charged with providing the heroin that led to a teenage girl's fatal overdose has been postponed.

Seth Lombard-Hawthorne was supposed to go on trial Aug. 31, but The Republican newspaper reports that it was moved to Nov. 30.

The 22-year-old Westfield man is charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of 16-year-old Westfield High School junior Lillian Anderson. Anderson was found dead of an overdose in February 2016.

He has pleaded not guilty.

The trial was delayed so the judge can weigh a defense motion to suppress some evidence.

Lombard-Hawthorne's lawyer says her client's statements to police and the permission he gave to search his car and cellphone were not voluntary because he was under the influence of drugs and in "extreme duress."
