Marblehead Police Looking for Suspect in Possible Attempted Kidnapping

Police in Massachusetts are searching for a suspect in a possible attempted kidnapping.

According to Marblehead police, a 16-year-old girl reported that she was approached by a man in a car who wanted her to get into his car. The girl instead ran into a nearby building and locked herself in a public bathroom.

The girl didn't have access to a phone and estimated she was in the bathroom for as long as 30 minutes before a family member arrived to pick her up from a pre-arranged appointment.

The only description of the vehicle is a small silver car, not an SUV, police said.

The man may be in his 30's and was either black or Hispanic.

The incident allegedly occurred at Humphrey Street and Brookhouse Drive.

Officers patrolled the area Wednesday night and are continuing to investigate in an effort to understand if it was a case of mistaken identity, a miscommunication or worse, police said.

Police ask anyone with information to contact them at 781-631-1212.
