Shark Sightings Close Cape Cod, Nantucket Beaches

Officials have closed some of the beaches until further notice

Multiple shark sightings have closed beaches in Cape Cod and Nantucket on Sunday.

A shark spotted at Head of the Meadow Beach in Truro led officials to close the beach to swimmers until given further notice.

An earlier shark sighting closed the beach for hour on Sunday afternoon. This is the second-straight day the beach has been temporarily closed.

All South Shore beaches in Nantucket were also closed after a confirmed shark sighting at Cisco Beach, officials said. They did not indicate in the announcement when swimmers could return to the water.

The Nantucket Harbormaster announced the decision to close the water around 2 p.m..

Earlier in the day, Marconi Beach in Wellfleet was closed to swimming for one hour after a shark was spotted, the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy announced.

These sightings come after a string of sightings both this weekend and throughout the summer. The most recent sightings were Saturday, when beaches on both Cape Cod and in Plymouth, Massachusetts were closed.
