A plastic surgeon's medical license has been suspended in Massachusetts following his New York arrest on a slew of weapons charges this month.

After police stopped 47-year-old Matthew Bonanno of Westchester County on Aug. 12 to investigate a report that he threatened his estranged wife and family, they found a huge cache of weapons in his car, including assault rifles, body armor, a ballistic helmet and knives, among other weapons, as well as more than 1,600 rounds of ammunition, authorities said. Bonanno was arrested.

A search of Bonanno's other home on Long Island revealed another stash, including seven more rifles, two shotguns, two handguns, brass knuckles and several thousand more rounds of ammunition, authorities said.

The Massachusetts Board of Medicine said Wednesday that it was taking disciplinary action against Bonanno, suspending his medical license in the Bay State Tuesday during an emergency meeting.

The board said Bonanno had a right to a hearing within seven days.

Bonanno's estranged wife, whom he is accused of threatening to kill, went to court to support him last month. Bail was set at $100,000 cash or $500,000 bond.

His lawyer has argued that he is simply a gun enthusiast and poses no threat to the general public.
