Mass. College Student Charged With Raping Children at Campus Day Care

A Massachusetts college student has been charged with raping two young boys at a day care center on campus, the school confirmed Wednesday.

Kyle Loughlin, a 21-year-old student who worked at the Bridgewater State University Children's Center, was arrested for the abuse of two children after staff told police about complaints.

The center provides day care services for children of students, faculty and staff. Police say Loughlin digitally penetrated two boys between the ages of 4 and 5.

"My trust has been shattered," said a woman, who does not want to be identified, whose daughter attends preschool at the Children's Center.

Loughlin was arrested Tuesday night. He faces charges of sexual abuse and indecent assault and battery. He has been held without bail after being arraigned Wednesday morning in Brockton.

The university said Wednesday that it informed all parents about the investigation, but the mother who spoke with necn says she didn't know anything about it until she saw news crews in the parking lot that afternoon.

"The fact that the institution itself did not notify parents when they knew there was a problem, to care for my child," she said. "She hasn't been interviewed or talked to, and she's been in the same room with this person."

Asked if she would send her daughter back, the woman said, "Absolutely not."

In an email sent to parents, the school explained that a meeting was planned for 6 p.m. Thursday.

"I was unable to contact you by phone this afternoon to inform you of a serious incident that has transpired in the Children's Center," Jason Pina, Vice President for Student Affairs, said in the email.

The Enterprise reported that at least 100 pairs of underwear, pullups and diapers, some belonging to the victims, were found by police in Loughlin's dorm.

No information about Loughlin's representation was immediately available.
