Massachusetts officials have launched a new effort to educate motorists about distracted driving.
The campaign announced by Republican Gov. Charlie Baker's administration includes a TV spot called "Don't Be That Guy,'' which is aimed at convincing drivers to take responsibility for their behavior and acknowledge that it could put others in danger.
Baker is pushing lawmakers to approve a bill that would ban motorists from any use of hand-held cellphones. Texting while driving is already illegal in Massachusetts.
The bill has cleared the Senate in the past but has not received a final vote in the House. Democratic House Speaker Robert DeLeo says he expects the proposed ban to come up for a vote during the current legislative session.
April is national Distracted Driving Awareness Month.
