The Massachusetts Major City Chiefs of Police Association announced Sunday that it will endorse the Baker/Polito ticket.
According to a statement released by Chelsea Police Chief Brian Kyes, who is also the president of the association, the decision to endorse Baker was unanimous.
The association is made up of the 39 largest police departments in the state.
The statement says that this is the first time in the association's 15 years that it has endorsed any candidate for political office.
"All the men and women of our organization collectively agree that your administration has been doing an outstanding job over the past four years, specifically as it pertains to enhancing public safety in our cities and towns and taking an exceptional leadership role in addressing the opioid epidemic on our state. We are also incredibly appreciative for your unyielding support in signing the much needed Police Training Bill - House Bill 4516 - into Law on July 25."
The statement finished by reiterating that the association looks forward to working with the Baker administration over the next four years.
