Mass. Recommends Sentence for Hernandez Cousin

Bristol County says Tanya Singleton, charged with contempt in murder case against Aaron Hernandez, should face 2 years probation, GPS monitoring

Massachusetts has recommended that Aaron Hernandez's cousin, Tanya Singleton, be sentenced to two years of probation during which she would be confined to her home.

Singleton is charged with contempt by Bristol County in the case in which Hernandez is charged with the 2013 first-degree murder of Odin Lloyd.

The Commonwealth accuses Singleton of deliberately hindering "the prosecution of the murder of Odin Lloyd," saying that she purposely withheld information regarding "the locations and movement of [Ernest] Wallace and [Carlos] Ortiz," also accused in the Lloyd case.

Singleton is expected to change her plea on the contempt charge to guilty on Tuesday.

GPS monitoring would be a condition of the state's recommended sentence, which states that she should only be allowed to leave her home to receive medical treatment or approved legal counsel.

Additionally, the state requests that Singleton not contact any witnesses aside from her sister, Jennifer Mercado, who lives with her, and that she abstain from any drug or alcohol use.

Singleton is also charged with contempt in Suffolk County, where Hernandez is charged with murdering Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado in 2012.

Bristol County has also charged Singleton with conspiracy to commit accessory after the fact to murder. She has pleaded not guilty to that charge.
