Mass. Senate President Marries Long-time Partner

The 66-year-old senator and his 29-year-old partner have been together since 2008.

Massachusetts Senate President Stan Rosenberg has married his long-time partner.

WGBH-FM reports that Rosenberg, an Amherst Democrat, and Bryon Hefner were married on Tuesday.

A statement issued by a spokeswoman for the Senate leader said a private ceremony was held at Cambridge City Hall.

The 66-year-old Rosenberg and the 29-year-old Hefner have been together since 2008.

Rosenberg became the first openly gay leader of a legislative chamber in Massachusetts when he took the gavel as Senate president in January 2015.

Rosenberg had said after the couple was engaged last year that Republican Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito had agreed to officiate at their wedding. It wasn't immediately known if she did, in fact, officiate.

Once a strong opponent of gay marriage, Polito later changed her position to one of support.
