Attleboro firefighter Thomas Cannon died Monday after suffering a medical issue while working at the city's Twin Village Fire Station the day before.

A Massachusetts firefighter died Monday after collapsing while on-duty a day before.

Attleboro Firefighter Thomas Cannon, 63, collapsed and went into cardiac arrest while performing truck and equipment checks at the beginning of his shift on Sunday at Attleboro's Twin Village Fire Station. His fellow firefighters were able to revive him and bring him to the hospital, where he later died.

He leaves behind a wife and three sons, one of whom is a firefighter in the town of Sandwich.

"I am very saddened at the news of Thomas Cannon's line of duty death," Attleboro Fire Chief Scott Lachance said in a statement. "He served our department with distinction and pride for over 30 years."

Cannon joined the Attleboro Fire Department in 1987. Fire officials said he was integral in implementing the department's Juvenile Fire Setters Intervention Program.

A wake will be held on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home in Attleboro. A private funeral service will follow.
