State Treasurer Deb Goldberg says she's exploring whether the Massachusetts Lottery should enter the lucrative online world of fantasy sports.
Goldberg said Wednesday that as head of the lottery commission, she always has to be thinking about potential competition to the lottery.
Goldberg said she was largely unaware of online fantasy sports until she attended a recent Red Sox game and saw ads for the Boston-based fantasy sports website DraftKings.
Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey is currently reviewing DraftKings.
Healey said last month that she wants to collect more information about the new industry and the company, which allows fans to play daily fantasy sports for cash prizes.
Gov. Charlie Baker said on Boston Herald Radio Wednesday that Goldberg should focus on the lottery.
Goldberg said a healthy lottery remains a top priority.
