Massachusetts Man Attacked by Coyote

Police say the man mistook the animal for a small-medium sized domestic dog

Authorities are warning residents after a Massachusetts man was bitten by a coyote Sunday evening.

According to police, an Ashburnham man mistook the wild canine for a domestic, small-medium sized dog. The coyote allowed the man to approach before biting him.

Ashburnham police warn that coyotes live in the wooded areas around town and that residents should watch their pets closely.

"Coyotes vary in size, color and will wander into residential areas looking for food," warn police.

The incident is under investigation by environmental police.
