Massachusetts Man Convicted of Beating Teen to Death Denied Parole

Rod Matthews is serving a life sentence

The man convicted of beating a Massachusetts teenager to death three decades ago, has been denied parole.

Rod Matthews was found guilty of beating classmate Shaun Ouillette with a baseball bat in Canton back in 1986, when they were both 14.

Ouillette's body was found weeks later in some woods off Pleasant Street.

Since his death, Ouillette's family has made it their mission to make sure Matthews, who is serving a life sentence, never goes free.

On Tuesday, Matthews was denied a parole request for the third time.

"I almost could breathe," said Shaun Ouillette's mother, Jeanne Quinn. "I felt a big weight had fallen right off of my chest."

Quinn said 1986 is a year she's constantly reliving.

"I'm not going to sit by quietly. I am the only voice that Shaun has," Quinn said.

Matthews has another chance to apply in five years.
