Massachusetts Middle School Student Traveling to D.C. to See Pope Francis

A seventh grader at the McDevitt Middle School in Waltham, Massachusetts, is headed to Washington D.C. to meet the pope.

12-year-old Dylan Lopez will get a chance to see Pope Francis when he speaks to Congress next week.

U.S. Representative Katherine Clark has an extra ticket for the event, so she sponsored an essay contest to see who would get it. Dylan won.

The youngster wrote about how his parents immigrated to the U.S. from Argentina- having come from that country's capital city, Buenos Aires- just like Pope Francis.

In his essay, Lopez also said he wants to let Pope Francis know how much Hispanic immigrants are discriminated against on a daily basis. He says it needs to stop.

Lopez's father was here for his son's big day. He said he's very proud of him. They'll both be traveling to D.C. next week for the pope's visit. They hope to get a little sightseeing in as well.
