Massachusetts Native Injured in North Carolina Campus Shooting Improving

Drew Pescaro, a native of Rutland, was one of the six people injured after a gunman opened fire at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte campus April 30

The Massachusetts native wounded last week in the shooting at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte is improving while receiving big-name well-wishers at his hospital bedside.

Twenty-year-old Drew Pescaro, formerly of Rutland, was one of six people shot April 30 by former UNC student Trystan Andrew Terrel, 22.

Twenty-one-year-old Riley Howell, of Waynesville, and 19-year-old Ellis Parlier of Midland were killed. Three other victims are also recovering.

Pescaro had surgery after the shooting and has been on the road to recovery.

UNC Chancellor Philip L. Dubois shared a photo of Pescaro, his parents Denise and Ed, and Pescaro's girlfriend Erin Wilson, who recently received a visit from Charlotte Hornets President Fred Whitfield.

"We continue to hold him, Emily, Rami and Sean in our thoughts during their ongoing recovery," said DuBois in a statement.

According to the Charlotte Observer, Pescaro also received a visit Sunday from Carolina Panthers wide receiver D.J. Moore. Former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL quarterback Tim Tebow also Facetimed with Pescaro, according to the paper.

The shooting happened just hours before a concert was scheduled to take place on campus. The university has more than 26,500 students and 3,000 faculty and staff.
