Man Captured on Scooter Wanted for Questioning in Quincy Burglaries

Pictures released of man on scooter were taken from a local mosque recently robbed

Police have released pictures of a man they believe may be responsible for several burglaries in Quincy, Massachusetts.

Authorities said the burglaries took place primarily around Quincy Avenue.

The pictures show a man on a scooter and were taken from a local mosque which tells necn it was one of the places that’s been robbed.

“He knew there were cameras, and that’s why he covered his face very good,” said Muthanna Waili, a trustee at the Iman Islamic Center. “He put his hands on his face, only his eyes were showing.”

Waili says their surveillance cameras captured the same man breaking into the mosque three times in the last three weeks, on at least one occasion using a screwdriver to pry his way through a door lock, then making off with donation boxes and audio equipment.

The estimated value of the stolen cash and equipment is thousands of dollars.

Quincy Police call the operator of the scooter a person of interest in the case.

Investigators say scooters don’t need to be registered which means it doesn’t have a plate.

The alleged thief appears to be wearing a black helmet, black shirt, blue jeans and white sneakers.

“It is very upsetting, very disturbing,” said Waili. “This is a very peaceful community, this is a religious place.”

Investigators are hoping the man in the surveillance images can be identified.
