Massachusetts State Police Hunt Driver Who Tried to Hit Trooper on Pike

State police are hunting for a suspect they say tried to hit a trooper on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Boston.

Police say the state trooper stopped a rented 2018 Nissan Pathfinder on I-90 eastbound at Exit 25 in South Boston around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday. As he walked over to the SUV, police say the driver cut the wheel and tried to hit him.

The trooper jumped out of the way, and the suspect kept going east on I-90 until turning around at the ramps for Logan International Airport. Massachusetts State Police chased the driver west until around 7 p.m., when they called off the high-speed pursuit.

The SUV was later found abandoned about 40 miles from the airport on the Mass. Pike in Grafton. Footprints were seen heading into the woods. The Massachusetts State Police Air Wing and a K-9 unit were searching for the suspect, but no one has been found.

No further information was immediately available.
