Massachusetts State Police Investigating Fatal Crash in Westminster

A driver is dead after police say she attempted to change from the left lane to the right lane when she struck another vehicle.

Thirty-one-year-old Michelle A. Upshaw, of Concord, was driving a 2005 Nissan Altima on Route 2 eastbound, west of exit 26 in Westminster, late Friday night when she struck a 2015 Honda Accord, driven by a 65-year-old Fitchburg woman.

When Upshaw hit the car in the right lane, she veered back to the left lane, then sharply back to the right lane, striking the guardrail along the breakdown lane, causing the Nissan she was driving to rollover and slide across the roadway, then striking the guardrail along the median side, before coming to a stop.

She was pronounced dead at the scene from her injuries. The driver whose car she hit was not injured.

All traffic was initially stopped and then one lane of traffic was opened. Nearly four hours later, all lanes were back open.

No other information was immediately available.

The crash remains under investigation.
