Massachusetts State Police Seek Help in Solving Shooting Incident in Mansfield

Massachusetts State Police are seeking help in solving a shooting incident in Mansfield.

On July 23 at about 2 a.m., a marked state police cruiser was on patrol in the vicinity of Forbes Blvd. and Route 140. A trooper heard a loud noise that came from behind his cruiser as he was approaching a traffic signal. He also saw a large amount of white smoke in the area.

The trooper reversed direction and saw a man, wearing light colored clothing, in the woods. He was running in the direction of the Super Stop & Shop.

A search of the area resulted in the discovery of a Thompson Triumph .50 caliber muzzleloader with a 28" Weather Shield coated barrel, a Redhead brand backpack and a hunting camp.

The suspect has not been located.
