Massachusetts State Police Trooper Charged With OUI Hopes to Avoid Arraignment

A Massachusetts State Police trooper arrested Saturday on OUI charges is hoping to avoid arraignment.

Alfred Burgos, a 35-year-old state trooper, was off-duty when he allegedly drove drunk, going around the Goodwin Circle rotary in Lynnfield. Three people called 911 to report he was driving about 15 mph in his SUV and swerving into different lanes.

When troopers pulled Burgos over, they reported he smelled like alcohol, slurred his speech and was confused about how he had gotten there. He told police he was on his way home to Framingham from a banquet in Melrose.

According to the police report, Burgos refused a breath test.

Burgos is being evaluated for inclusion in the Valor Program, which allows those with military service and no prior record to avoid being arraigned.
