Massive Delays Reported on MBTA, Boston Area Roads

People returned to work and students returned to school after the 4-day snowstorm

Massive delays were reported on the MBTA and roadways around Boston as people returned to work and students returned to school on Wednesday morning after the region's third significant snowstorm in just a couple of weeks.

Early into service Wednesday, the MBTA reported that a Green Line D branch was experiencing moderate delays due to a disabled train. The Blue Line also experienced moderate delays from a disabled train.

MBTA riders reported long lines and crowded trains and buses as rail service resumed a day after shutting down so tracks could be cleared of ice and snow.

NECN viewer Valeria Miranda said people at the Wollaston MBTA Station have been waiting outside for a shuttle bus for over two hours

"I'm STILL on my commute on the MBTA bus from Salem that left at 7!" said Amy Chamberlain-Brillon.

"Waited over an hour in the cold at Quincy Center but couldn't squeeze on the bus to JFK. Took the bus to Ashmont Station. Now on my way to South Station. Train just left Ashmont. I left home at 7:45am. It is a nightmare!" said Sarah Wu.

Area highways also clogged with traffic Wednesday. Commuters on Interstate 95, Interstate 93 and on roads throughout Boston reported gridlock conditions.

"It's RIDICULOUS!!" said Susan Luongo.

"Just took nearly an hour to go 2+ miles on Mass Ave/Lake St in Arlington," said Timothea Sugrue Frost.

"Commute implies that traffic is moving. I got off the road and went home," said Leslie Mooney Patten.

"Seventy-five minutes from south boston to Brookline not even 5 miles," added Katherina Shelton.

"Thirty-five minutes to get from N. Weymouth to the Quincy Hospital area... Good stuff," said Garett Butkuss.

"Newport Ave in Quincy is a nightmare," noted Kara Lochiatto.

"Complete standstill in West Roxbury," said Korinna Driscoll.

"They should have told everyone to stay home till all this was dealt with.. buses are not even showing up for kids for school," said Diana Smith Hill.

"Horrible, left my house at 7:30am and I'm at a dead stop in Mattapan square it's 9:23 now," said Michael Antaya.
