Max the Dog Returns Home After Being Left to Fend for Itself

A New Hampshire dog left to fend for itself after its owner was arrested last week is finally safe Tuesday afternoon.

Max the dog was seen weaving through traffic along Interstate 93 in the Windham area for six days. He took off while his owner was being arrested for marijuana possession at a Salem hotel.

Volunteers at Granite State Dog Recovery were called in and set traps along the highway, finally catching Max in Londonderry on Sunday morning.

"Every minute could have been a death sentence for him," Amy Mailhot of Granite State Dog Recovery said.

The non-profit has nearly 150,000 followers on Facebook, and volunteers are crediting social media as their best tool when it comes to finding lost dogs.

Max is now with his owner's daughter in North Conway.
