Mayor Vows Clampdown After Strip Club Shootings in Springfield, Mass.

Mayor Domenic Sarno has ordered a hearing on security at the Mardi Gras club

Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno is ordering a hearing on security at a local strip club after two men were shot and injured.

The shooting occurred at about 2 a.m. Saturday outside the Mardi Gras club.

Sarno pointed to what he called "a very troubling trend of incidents evolving from the Mardi Gras parking lot area."

Sarno said in the written statement Saturday that the incident seems to be gang-related and that establishments like the strip club appear to be a haven for gang members. He said they continue to give Springfield black eye.

In September a Springfield man was killed in a shooting outside the club.

Sarno said if the clubs don't properly police their clientele and property, the city will pursue sanctions, all the way up to revoking licenses.
