Police: Man Left 2 Dogs in Car With Inside Temp of Over 120 Degrees

A Massachusetts man is facing an animal abuse charge after allegedly leaving his two dogs inside a hot car in New Hampshire.

Samuel Frackleton, 22, of Westford was arrested on Monday afternoon after Merrimack police officers responded to a report of two dogs left inside a car in a parking lot at the Merrimack Premium Outlets.

When police arrived at the scene, they found a vehicle with two dogs inside and the windows slightly open. With temperatures above 90 degrees that day outside of the car, a device found that the temperature inside of the car peaked at 128 degrees.

The dogs were rescued by animal control officers and taken to the Merrimack Police Department in good condition, according to police. The dogs were eventually released "to a responsible family member," police said.

Eventually, officers found the driver of the car, identified as Frackleton, and arrested and charged him with animals in a motor vehicle.

He was released on $1,500 personal recognizance bail and is due in court on July 12 for his arraignment. It's unclear if he has an attorney.
