Microburst Hits Western Massachusetts

As many as 60 trees were blown down in Longmeadow as severe storms moved through Western Massachusetts.

Storm spotters report many trees came down near Route 5, with a few falling on homes.

After analyzing images from the damage, the National Weather Service says a microburst likely hit the town.

A microburst is a gust of straight-line winds that come out of a thunderstorm. In this case those gusts likely reached 70 MPH, according to the National Weather Service.

Along with the wind damage, many communities in the Bay State, including Spencer and Wellesley, reported flooding as the drenching rain and storms moved through Saturday afternoon.
