Middle School Teacher in Rhode Island Faces Child Sex Charges

A Rhode Island man who teaches in the Cranston school district faces child sex charges.

Matthew Sheridan has pleaded not guilty after being arraigned in Providence Superior Court on one count of first-degree sexual assault and one count of second-degree sexual assault, according to necn affiliate WJAR.

Sheridan is accused of sexually assaulting a boy he knew between June 1, 2003, and July 9, 2004. The boy was 15 and 16 years old at the time of the alleged assaults, the attorney general says.

Sheridan is employed as a teacher at the Western Hills Middle School. He has been placed on paid administrative leave.

Authorities say the allegations are not related to his job.
