Weather is improving Friday evening across New England as milder temperatures take over and the rain ends.
Precipitation will change over to rain across northern New England late, with the highest elevations still experiencing a wintry mix. Southern New England will have another quarter inch to half inch of rain.
The spotty showers taper off tonight from west to east. Temperatures stay in the low 50s and upper 40s overnight into Saturday morning.
The wind gusts will stay strong across the southcoast, Cape Cod and islands until tonight. Gusts up to 50 miles per hour from the south will be possible there. Between 30 and 40 mph winds across the interior. The wind direction changes by Saturday afternoon, as a cold front dives through. This boundary may trigger a spot shower or mountain snow.
Mainly, area residents will notice the wind picking up and temperatures falling gradually Saturday afternoon and evening. By Sunday, highs will be in the low 30s, but at least it will be sunny.

Increasing clouds on Monday as temperatures rise to the 40s. The air will be warm enough on New Year’s Eve and during First Night Boston, so any precipitation will be in the form of rain. Spotty shower chance increases as midnight approaches. Scattered rain continues through New Year’s Day. By afternoon, clearing skies and temperatures may be near 50 degrees. Colder air returns for mid-week and the next brief chance for snow will be on Thursday.
