Amtrak is modifying service in the Northeast and Midwest because of winter storms moving through the region.
The Capitol Limited, from Chicago to Washington, and the Lake Shoe Limited, from Chicago to New York, are canceled on Saturday.
On Sunday, five Acela trains and six Northeast Regional trains will not operate between New York and Boston. Six Keystone trains are canceled between New York and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Two Pennsylvanian trains are canceled between New York and Pittsburgh. Two Vermonter trains on Sunday will not run between St. Albans, Vermont, and New Haven, Connecticut.
Northeast Corridor service between New York and Washington will run as scheduled.
Amtrak passengers are advised to check on the status of their trains throughout the weekend.
Keolis Commuter Services, which operates the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority's commuter rail system, also announced Friday that commuters should stay connected for service updates this weekend as they prepare for the winter storm that is expected to arrive over the weekend.
While forecasts vary, certain areas on the MBTA commuter rail could see more than a foot of snow.

“We’re closely monitoring the forecast, particularly the rain-snow line, to properly deploy our resources for our passengers,” said David Scorey, Keolis CEO and General Manager. “Our goal is to minimize the storm’s impact on service to ensure passengers who need to travel can use commuter rail as an alternative to driving in these conditions. Passengers who do have to travel this weekend should leave extra time to get to stations, use caution on platforms and when boarding trains, and stay connected for service updates."
More than 350 personnel will be deployed across the commuter rail to shovel, sand and salt passenger areas, as well as to respond to incidents that may occur during the storm, such as downed trees.
The MBTA said regularly scheduled service is expected on all of its trains adn buses. Updates will be posted on mbta.com throughout the storm.
Shuttle bus service replacement previously scheduled for this weekend on the Green Line D branch between Kenmore and Reservoir as well as evening shuttle bus service replacement previously scheduled for this Sunday on the Red Line between North Quincy and Braintree have been cancelled.
