“Money Man” in Drug Ring Gets 3 Years

A Springfield, Massachusetts, man has been sentenced to three years in prison for his role in a multi-million dollar drug ring

A Springfield, Massachusetts, man has been sentenced to three years in prison for his role in a multi-million dollar drug ring that brought heroin from New York City to western Massachusetts.

Walber Quinones, sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court in Springfield, was described as the "money man," transporting duffel bags full of cash between the cities.

The 32-year-old Quinones and another man were caught by federal agents last year with $250,000 on their way to New York. Investigators also recovered $35,000 and a gun from Quinones' apartment.

The Republican newspaper reports that Quinones' lawyer sought a lighter sentence, saying his client, a father of four, has no prior criminal record and is trying to run his life around.

Five others were charged in the scheme, run out of a city bakery.
