More Than a Dozen Displaced in Roxbury House Fire

More than a dozen people were displaced following a 3-alarm fire at a Roxbury multi-family home.

The overnight blaze was first reported at approximately 12:45 a.m. Wednesday at a home on Dewey Street, according to the Boston Fire Department. The fire was so severe, it caused damage to the outside of a nearby home on Blue Hill Avenue.

"It was like a scene out of a movie," one displaced resident said. "I can't even tell you where they initially started. It was just orange and bright and smoke everywhere. It was really crazy."

Most residents were asleep at the time of the fire, and many believe the blaze began on the third floor.

One injury was reported and a woman was hospitalized since she was upset because of the blaze. The woman’s daughter said she is expected to be OK.

It is unclear where the 16 displaced residents will stay.

"Going forward, we just have to work together and think to take the next steps in order to do what we have to do," another resident said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
