    Mother, Daughter Killed in Head-On Crash in Maine

    Police in Maine said a mother and daughter were killed Tuesday afternoon in a head-on crash in Casco.

    Officials told WCSH-TV that a Jeep driven by Jamie Mantz, 53, crossed the center line near Cold Springs Road for unknown reasons and hit an SUV head-on.

    Mantz and her 80-year-old mother, Carol Storm, were killed.

    The 26-year-old driver of the SUV was taken to Maine Medical Center with serious head and leg injuries.

    A would-be robber armed with a knife had a surprise in store when an Alabama store clerk pulled out a machete in defense. The two's brief knife fight was caught on camera before the clerk runs out to damage the robber's car.

    According to police, suspect Seth Holcomb walked up to the counter to make a purchase. He leaves the store and then comes back in as if to make a second purchase. Then, he pulled out a knife at the counter. What he didn't expect was that the clerk would pull out a machete of his own.

    Police said all three victims had to be extricated from their vehicles.

    The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.
