A mother and stepfather have been arrested and charged with murder in the death of a 10-year-old girl in Stockton Springs, Maine.

Julio Carrillo, 51, and his wife, Sharon Carrillo, 33, were arrested at the State Police offices in Bangor after being interviewed by detectives Monday. Both were taken to to the Waldo County Jail in Belfast.

Officials say an ambulance was called to a residence at the Village at Stockton Harbor condominiums on Sunday afternoon for an unresponsive child. The 10-year-old was dead when first responders arrived.

Maine State Police are required to investigate all deaths of children.

An autopsy conducted Monday by the State Medical Examiner's Office determined the death to be homicide.

The family had been staying at a condo at 7 Harbor View Drive, which is owned by Sharon Carrillo's parents. There were two other young children in the home at the time, and the Maine Department of Health and Human Services took custody of them on Sunday. The other children are ages one and two.

Both Sharon and Julio Carrillo are expected to appear in court on Belfast either Tuesday or Wednesday. It's unclear if they have a lawyer.
