Motorist Fell Asleep at Wheel, Crashed Into Guardrail

Vermont State Police have arrested a woman on DUI charges in the town of Clarendon.

Vermont State Police have arrested a woman on DUI charges in the town of Clarendon.

Officers from the Rutland Barracks responded to a report of an operator asleep at the wheel around 8: 30 p.m. Friday night. According to police, the operator awoke and drove away from the scene when a passerby stopped to check on her.

A short time later, police said a vehicle that matched the description of the initial vehicle crashed into a guardrail on Route 4 westbound in Fair Haven. The car was ultimately stopped on Route 7 just north of Route 103.

The motorist was identified as Meghan Bogutz, 24, of Poultney, Vermont. She was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol. Bogutz is being held on $5,000 bail and will appear in Rutland Superior Court on Monday.
