Massachusetts State Police are investigating a multi-vehicle crash that happened Monday night on Interstate 93 in Wilmington, seriously injuring three people.
The crash happened on the southbound side of the highway between exits 38 and 39.
Preliminary investigation shows a Honda Fit collided with the rear end of a tractor-trailer, causing it to veer across several lanes and crash into another vehicle.
After it came to a rest it was hit by another vehicle, spun across the highway and hit a tree.
The operator of the Fit was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The drivers of the other two vehicles were taken to area hospitals with serious injuries.
The tractor-trailer continued to travel and has not yet been located.
The crash remains under investigation.
