Mystery Sea Creature Washes Up on Scarborough, Maine Beach

A mystery sea creature believed to be some type of a shark washed ashore at a Maine beach on Thursday morning.

News Center Maine reports that the badly decomposed animal was found at Higgins Beach in Scarborough. It is about 15 feet long and four feet wide.

The town's animal control officer said the poor condition of the carcass is making it difficult to identify it. Marine experts say they believe it is a species of shark and not a whale.

The carcass has been removed from the beach and is being taken to a nearby landfill where it will be buried.
