Patriots Sign New Kicker After Releasing Mike Nugent

The New England Patriots have signed a new kicker after releasing kicker Mike Nugent on Tuesday afternoon.

The NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported the Patriots are signing free agent kicker Nick Folk, formerly of the Buccaneers, Jets and Cowboys. He will replace Nugent, who signed with the team after starting kicker Stephen Gostkowski was placed on injured reserve with a hip injury earlier this month.

Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer first reported Tuesday that the Patriots were releasing Nugent.

Nugent played in four games with the Patriots. He converted on five of his eight field goal attempts and 15 of his 16 extra point kicks. The 37-year-old veteran missed two of his four field goal attempts in Sunday's Week 8 win over the Cleveland Browns.

The NFL trade deadline is set for 4 p.m. ET Tuesday.
