A lawmaker from New Hampshire has proposed a bill that would lower the legal drinking age in the state to 18 - as long as someone 22 or older is also present.
State Rep. Max Abramson, the bill's sponsor, told Seacoastonline.com that most other western countries allow drinking at 19 or younger and have far lower rates of alcoholism among teens. His bill calls for a lower legal blood alcohol content of .05 for those under 21. Hard liquor would be prohibited for those under age 21.
Area police said they are against Abramson's proposal, saying it would likely lead to more irresponsible drinking.
