The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services has lifted the bacteria warning issued last month for Downing Pond in New Durham.
The warning had been in place since Aug. 17. Samples collected Tuesday showed no measurable cyanobacteria cells. However, once the blue-green algae blooms are seen, the body of water is more likely to have future blooms.
The department says direct contact with water containing bluish-greenish globs is discouraged.
Health effects include irritation of skin and mucous membranes, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Chronic effects include liver and central nervous system damage.
