A New Hampshire man with "terminal cognitive and physical health issues" is accused in the shooting death of his wife.
Police responded to a 911 call Tueaday afternoon at 553 Maple St. in Newport. Inside, officers found 75-year-old Margaret "Peggy" Clarke dead from a gunshot wound to the chest. Her death was ruled a homicide.
Thursday, Attorney General Gordon MacDonald announced that Clarke's husband, 77-year-old George "Graham" Clarke, had been identified as the alleged shooter.
Authorities said Clarke has dementia and other health issues. He is currently at a medical facility.
MacDonald said criminal charges are not being brought against Clarke at this time because of concerns about his legal competency.
