NH Woman Stole $650 in Gift Cards From Her Job, a School District: PD

The stolen gift cards were intended as prizes for winners of an employee wellness/fitness challenge at the school district, police said

A 49-year-old woman in Manchester, New Hampshire, was arrested last week on charges she stole more than two dozen Hannaford supermarket gift cards from the school district she works for, police said Monday.

The woman, Susan Hawes, works as an account technician at the Manchester school district and turned herself in on Friday, the Manchester Police Department said in a statement.

The stolen gift cards were intended as prizes for winners of an employee wellness/fitness challenge at the school district, police said. After another school district employee reported the gift cards missing, police launched an investigation that led them to Hawes.

The gift cards had a total value of $650 and most were redeemed and associated with one Hannaford loyalty rewards account that belonged to Hawes, the department said.

Hawes was released on bail and is scheduled to appear in court for arraignment on Dec. 23, the police stated. It wasn't immediately clear if she had an attorney.
