Navy SEALs Take on Swim Challenge for Military Families With Sick Children

The four SEALs raised more than $80,000 for Camp Sunshine when they swam Sebago Lake

Four active duty U.S. Navy SEALs took on a challenge that's never been done before in an effort to raise money for military families with sick children.

Although there weren't any buckets of ice, there was a lot of cold water!

The four SEALs went into Maine's Sebago Lake early Thursday morning to swim the entire length of the lake, about 13 miles.

The goal was to raise money for Camp Sunshine, a unique camp that serves children with life threatening illnesses and welcomes their entire families for a free week of rest and fun.

The SEALs were greeted by hundreds of people on shore after spending seven hours in the water and raising more than $80,000. They don't use their last names, but one of the swimmers named Chad said after the swim, "I can't put it into words how good that feels, seeing people here, seeing what it does for families warms my heart."

The money raised by the Navy SEALs' swim will be used to help military families who have sick children go to Camp Sunshine. The camp serves about 800 families each year.
