New Analysis Shows Baby Doe Spent Time in New England States

New analysis in the case of an unidentified toddler found dead on Deer Island in Winthrop, Massachusetts, shows that the young girl spent time in several of the New England states.

The Suffolk County District Attorney's Office said Tuesday that stable isotope ratio analysis on the child's hair and teeth shows she may have consumed drinking water in various locations, including any of the New England states, as well as other locations across the U.S.

Scientists have not yet compared the drinking water samples to other countries.

Prior testing of pollen samples recovered from the trash bag the girl was found in suggest she spent time in the Greater Boston area prior to her death. The girl's body did not show signs of advanced composition, suggesting that she died in the area rather than at a distant location.

A woman walking her dog along Deer Island found the girl's body on June 25. She is believed to have been about four years old with brown hair and brown eyes. She weighed about 30 pounds and stood about three and a half feet tall. The child was found wearing a distinctive pair of white leggings with black polka dots and was with a zebra-print fleece blanket.

Since the girl's body was discovered, investigators have released a computer-generated image of what they think she may have looked like. In addition, 84 electronic billboards throughout Massachusetts share the photo along with the anonymous tip line and number to text.

Tips from the public have prompted state and Winthrop police with about 150 unique leads to her identity, resulting in 35 well-being checks in the U.S. and abroad. Nothing has led to her identification.

The investigation is on-going.
